100 Things You Should Know About Wonders of the World
100 Things You Should Know About Wonders of the World
I wonder how they used masts to hold a canvas roof on the arena.. Ah what it would have been to have the statues under each of the arches on the outer side. The statue stopping the sunlight and casting a shadow. Two arches is bare. One more and they need no statues for adornment. A half arch is half built or half left.
I am looking at the Temple of Artemis and I am imagining what it is to sit on the top of that building with statues all around on the top.
Looking at the hanging gardens, I feel that if a persons work was to just water the plants, then wouldn’t it be effective to have water supply at each level of the terrace.
Looking at the knowledgable mountain that feels, I thought all the wonders that are else where are unknown to us when they are not in our sight.so much like the Machu Picchu city.. nazca patterns and pictures..wow floating farms of Aztecs.. stone compound in Zimbabwe which looked like a maze.. mali’s mosque .. Djenne.. wooden steps to scramble up and down.. repairing with fresh mud each spring..oh Lalibela is an Ethiopin kings name…one solid rock church…Japan’s Yonaguni island…Korean observatory..
Red crabs on Christmas island in the Indian ocean.. penguins.. monarch butterflies why lay eggs in numbers… will it happen to humans too??
The Great barrier reef can be seen from the space..winslow Arizona trees rocks..white lizards and mice in white sands of Mexico..the Giants causeway in Ireland..Iguacu waterfalls make rainbows..scotlands forth bridge is always being painted..
Japan made up of four islands.. shikoku.. honshu…

The excitement of a newbie learner
Darci the Drummer taught me about famous drummers as well as the "Practice pad" and "metronome". The metronome I am used to hearing about from my musical friends is a different one. Now I also know what tom toms are. And did you know that the drummer's chair is referred to as throne.
Darci the Drummer takes drum lessons deals with something all readers of any age are familair with. The learning of a new hobby, skill. the classes that go into it. The classes that you run out of. The classes that your parents sign you up for. Triumphs and Failures all reel in front of your head.
On rereading I notice, Placement of the text on page is creative. In one page, Darci's shirt is the frame. That sort of captures Darci's passion for drumming and how that is all that matters to her, the practising. In another page, the whole drum set forms the background with text overlaid on it. Also the metronome before its introduction, high on a music sheet holder.
Darci's excitement is palpable. The emotional rollercoaster of learning something new formally is well shown. I love the supportive parents.
I didnt know about the accomplished drummers Shiela E, Neil Peat, karen Carpenter and Ringo Starr.
This book was fun to read with a preschooler as I would read about say metronome and ask where it is on the page. With older kids, you can relate it to their trials and tribulations with swimming, soccer, drawing and all things that are frustrating when you cant do them as well as you think you should. I had a similar bout very late after college, where I badly wanted to learn writing and didnt know how. I writhed at a park, but slowly and steadily I inched towards it with reading.
Maybe there will be a sequel to the book, with Darci' s experiences as she grows through this period into an expert.

The unicorn in Glitter Rhinos
One day, while picking up my daughter from camp, I found glitter leading my way. My first thought went to the Little Red Riding Hood story. Little Red Riding Hood could have used glitter too to mark her way out of safety.
Like this Gloria the rhino who loves glitter, Little Red Riding Hood could have glitter on her cape.
The glittery rhino itself is being referred to as chubby unicorn.
University of Unicota scientist says “It all makes so much sense now – the horn, the rainbows, the glitter and a fondness for all things pink. I just can’t believe we didn’t make this connection sooner. We have to do everything we can to save these incredible creatures and keep the unicorn in them alive.”
PS: That glitter was on the route to youth talent competition room.
