Flight School

The illustrations of the book will floor you. The light shock wave kind of contours for the animals, with pencil marks has an absolute newness to it. The pages move through like a video. the zoom in and out  and the top view of the school crew, once the penguin is in flight make you wonder if you are the one with the camera.
Now in the air
Now in the water, the book has a verve to it. Having just read Flamingo Sunset, its a nice continuation to have the flamingo as a  teacher.
This book is a good opportunity for animal behavior discussions.

An Explorer's Notebook

Scaling Up Excellence

Two Pizza Rule
Peanut Butter Manifesto

Long time ago I remember reading about Intel's fabs being exactly the same everywhere. New to US, I found it puzzling that you could be anywhere in a brand store like say Target, it was all the same. But now I see the advantage of a known layout when you are in a hurry. When I came across the section about MRI being made fun for kids, I wondered if there was going to be old news. But that was it.
The books starts at this point, and then we come across so many organizations and so many tactics followed by them to keep the guzzling companies growing. You hear about some companies throwing away the need for vacation request and performance reviews, in the book you read about how the companies used those methods for better performance.

Talking about Broadcom's vacation policy,  a colleague mentioned about the reserves needed to be held in books if accrued vacation was to be paid when an employee leaves the company.

To Dads

While reading about author's plane ride with his son, I was reminded of a time in the line at the airport security check. A quiet teenager had a comfort toy with her and a Dad. Reading all the stories and poems, I was reminded of all the books I read so far on disabilities - parents rejoicing when their disabled kids can do something thought impossible until then, parents finding them in their children's shoes and understanding their own disabilities, how some health conditions bar a normal life, parents inspired by their kids.
This collection too has stories from father's POV, appreciation of present fathers.
The Prosthetics Fitting Suite poem by Sam Smith poem captures a moment in life, when we come to realisations of huge consequence.
The most popular book about a disabled person is that of Hellen Keller. While there is a mystery element of how is a broken communication channel made up for, I have always read stories about how people overcome their disability and do wonderful feats like Erik Weihenmayer climbing Everest and later helping a team of blind children from Nepal do similar things. Parents and caregivers take upon systems to give their child the best care possible. Debunking the mom as primary caregiver of a disabled child, this book appreciated the Dads.

Mirror

1. A Tunnel reflection in water completes it
But a good look at the mirror reveals
who we are not
Two bamboo sticks in a vase
now four with a mirror

2. An elliptical mirror

The common thing in religions

I came across the the ten paintings of the Ox and the Boy but didnt know its  significance. In The Oxherder and the Good Shepherd. author Addison Hodges compares the scriptures of a religion to the tracks left by the Ox in discussion. And who is the Ox in the paintings? The self.
In the series of the paintings is a well told story of taming your self.
