Someone Else is Happy with Less Than What You Have

Someone Else is Happy with Less Than What You Have

Yesterday while reading Running with my head down, I came across a quote -

"There are always two businesses to manage - the one you are in and the one you are becoming"
It made me think of how it is true even for our roles in life. We have to manage the role we are in and the role we are preparing ourselves for.
You might have heard that you shouldnt dress for the role you are in, but for the role you want to be in.
That reach for the higher ambition is stronger if you acknowledge and accept the role that you are in with gratitude.
The same with the body image too. I have now reached a point where I am going for fitness and happy with my current weight. There is some ground to cover, but I have it all under control. How often can you say that?

Jump Rope Workouts: Cardio fitness for increased stamina, lean muscle building and fat burning

Jump Rope Workouts: Cardio fitness for increased stamina, lean muscle building and fat burning by Anthony Anholt

I have been doing jump-rope for about 2 months now. Every morning I do about 10 min of jump rope. On the days that I dont feel up to it or am short of time, I do even  5 or 3 min jump rope exercise, to keep the habit going.

Motivation is What gets You Started Habit is What Keeps You Going - Jim Rohn

A while ago, when I had done the 30 minute jump rop exercise, my fet ahced the next day. Then I hadnt started using the jump-rope mat. I shied away from it as I had been doing jump rope on the tiles. After starting with the mat, my mind dared to see if I could handle the 30 min jum rope on carpet and the mat cushioning. I surmised that it would be great if I could do that.
I already see the fruits. I saw a drop in the body fat percentage. I love the benefit of jump rope cardio and how quick it is. I am always comparing it to 3 times my other workouts. Weekends, it is 30 min jump rope now.

A Great Fit: My Take on Confidence, Charisma, and the Career That Suits You Best

A Great Fit: My Take on Confidence, Charisma, and the Career That Suits You Best

Former Calvin Klein CEO Tom Murry business lessons learned on an oil rig

"When most boys his age were fighting about who was the best baseball player, Calvin had opinions on fashion". Some of those baseball kids could be running head down to home base. funny thing about kids and when they invent. The seeds are planted in the childhood.

Murry puts it very well whne he says confidence+ creative freedom +vision = taste.

As a kid, he found an opportunity in selling Christmas wreaths. He also shows how wrestling taught him grit, self-sacrifice and self-discipline.

This book balances between personal experiences and general dos and donts for progressing in career and happy life.

Private Practise Public Reward

Five Weeks on Fasting The Private Discipline That Brings Public Reward

People are rewarded in public for what they practice for years in private. – Tony Robbins

When it comes to taking care of yourselves and fitness, its the iceberg. All the hours you put in is under the water for the 10% of your self that you show to the world, to glow.

It can be extended to the integrity concept of what you do when no one is watching.

The Boy Who Invented the Popsicle: The Cool Science Behind Frank Epperson's Famous Frozen Treat

My older one drew a plain popsicle on a friend's birthday card. The younger one asked for a flavor by which she meant some color.

When th eyounger one asked for her own popsicle drawing, she got a person popsicle with face and hair. What a creative way of  turning popsicle into people. I guess its the older one's way of saing "people are popsicles" too

Running With My Head Down: An Entrepreneur's Story of Passion, Perseverance, and Purpose

Running With My Head Down: An Entrepreneur's Story of Passion, Perseverance, and Purpose by Frank Fiume, i9 Sports Cofounder.

Sometimes I feel so fortunate to be in such touch with books.
Recently I saw a father wearing the i9 coach shirt.
Golden handcuffs of his daily job reminded me of the The Golden Goose story, where you will be rewarded well each day, but only that much.

While running with your head down is one metaphor from baseball, going from one base to the other, after hitting the ball, another one I heard at Toastmasters is "live by the pitch" which is similar to the "follow th puck"  or "A good hockey player plays where the puck is. A great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be." by Wayne Gretzky.

Fiume refers to the transformational influence of Tony Robbins's power of a minute.

The book struck a nice balance between the memoir and the business part of it. Fiume knew eaxctly what the league market/customers needed - personalised customer service, full 26 game schedule at the outset, updated statistics - scores and standings.

The author showed his mindscape, during the different stages of the growth of the business as well as how he seeked help and support through his mentor, attending conferences.

You get a little peak at the franchise business.

Fiume shows great candor in accepting and showing off his failures and flops louder than his success.

Frank Fiume's quotes.
"Finding your purpose is about making your own breaks and creating your own luck"

"We are not participating in the recession"

"There are always two businesses to manage - the one you are in and the one you are becoming"

Justin Wilson Looking Back: A Cajun Cookbook

Justin Wilson Looking Back: A Cajun Cookbook

I have never heard of Justin Wilson before. His show is funny with the laugh track. Thats a first cooking show I am watching with so much humor and personification of food. I once remember a friend cookign that way, asking the food to boil. Wilson has long drawn conversations with food. It is entertaining. His section on scrambled eggs with onions and mushroom and boiled cabbages with sweet potatoes is something you can do right away, even while watching the video. It is cool to watch him show how he can figure out a teaspoon of salt without a measuring spoon.

What song for this season?

Today i had an epiphany about the naming of months, days, seasons. The heat hasnt let up enough to be a harbinger of winter but I already am looking forward to the cozy holiday season mainly because we have so few months left in the year. And thus even if seasons get unreliable our reckoning of time, day and motnhs irrespective or independent of the sun keeps us moving on.

Imagine a whale with heart as big as  car and whose tongue is as heavy as an elpehant. Didnt that picture come real to your mind? Next time you see cars on the road, you can imagine the three double-decker buses height whale. Very powerful imagery.

The illustrator has done bold paintings with many animals of a kind on the page and text swimming along. The move paid off.
