May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.
-Edward AbbeyI wanted to read Powell's expedition into this area but cant quite trace how I started with Desert Solitaire.
Need to read this Sahara experience book next.

After watching the arches here, are the architects of the buildings with arches trying to embue the building with the long timeliness - millions of years, that takes the arches to form.
Edward Abbey saw Easter island heads in the balanced rock.
I kept seeing tall people in hoodies (imagine Gregorian Chant music and visuals) in those long columns everywhere.
It was interesting to find that what would topple this was Dewey bridge member
We saw the balanced rock as a mushroom from behind as we went anti clock wise. After coming towards the front, we saw the magic of Auto CAD perspective that it wasnt as voluminous or full that back side view made us believe. Dont believe everything you see as is, without getting a full view. There is a water bottle with some light orangish look. Behind it is a perfume bottle that lends its color to the waterbottle.
The arches themselves, strange, impressive, grotesque, form but a small and inessential part of the general beauty of this country. When we think of rock we usually think of stones, broken rock, buried under soil and plant life, ... elevates rocks paradoxically by removing rock, showing its vulnerability to forces of nature - water, snow, sun.

Wall arch collapse
I kept wondering if one of a large gaping was the wall arch without knowing where it was.
2000 Arches in the park.
While driving into the park, you see an arch far away in the background. Portent of the future. You have to spend atleast two days in the park to get the general lay of the land and form a mental map in your head and go back fill any missing features. I saw the north window and south window in one shot only on the second day after having looked at the park brochure.

If you are there dont forget to look for turret arch from the balanced rock. Why Park Avenue is called so.
