is not the same to everyone

To natives:
Beggars put their left hand
on stomach
and the right - fingers
gathered to join at tips
are held midair ever so
close to the mouth
to mimic eating

To foreigners:
The right hand holds
an imaginary fork

********
from Anne Lamotts experience of 'beggars ..pantomiming feeding themselves with fork' in India from 'Some Assembly required'.
