Recession: Eye opener

Of all the birds
the saddest to be
a statue
would be
a roadrunner

The day my friend
told me of it
I saw one running
in the parking lot
and knew it was
a roadrunner

This statue
was a heap
of faded copper
until the birdwatcher's
eyes opened
and the border stores
next to it closed.
