Customer Experience for Dummies

End of the roll of Mason's line

In my experience, Dummies series hasnt been a book which improves my interest in something new. Sometimes I am very lured by my favourite subjects only to be disappointed and confused with the piece meal information. with that in mind, I looked at the table of contents of 'Customer Experience' and found EFM (Enterprise Feedback Management) as something very interesting. For once, I awaited a Dummies book. Now I am even more pleasantly surprised with its very brainy approach to the whole customer experience thing.
The book has a very clear framework of having the customer experience in view of everyone, so there is accountability to customer feedback. Touchpoint and Customer journey map are the two major mantras. If you understand this much, your organisation will already be on the bright side of customers (i.e your NPS - Net performance score will be as that of a good company. Showing off lingo from the book). The customer journey map example in the book reminded me of Systemigrams I learnt in 'Systemic Thinking: Building Maps for Worlds of Systems'. so you can see how with the systems approach, you already get a one picture of the whole customer experience. And that view will be shared by all the employees. That visibility is the key to the betterment of customer experience.
There are many questions and points to assess your current customer feedback management and a process to redesign it so you listen to your customer grievances, respond to it in time with real-time monitoring and make them happy.

How to Hide a Lion

NYTimes review

Why the Lion came to Town?

The lion/tiger stories that I from my childhood usually involve animals and morals (The Story of Bahula Cow ). By chance, if they have humans in them, its mostly in the cautionary tale vein ( An old tiger and greedy traveller).
But once children get involved, we see how kids are so enamored by animals and will do anything to have them for friends, like Annie with her puppy. What if the animal is a huge lion. Still it does not deter them. In this 'How to hide a Lion" story, Iris helps Lion by hiding her in the house. The illustrations and the one line text in each page move the story effortlessly. Sometimes Iris looks so small when compare to the lion, I couldnt help but think of the tiny mouse in the Aesop's fable of The Lion and the Mouse. And sometimes when they are playful and jumping on the bed, the lion looks amiable as a life size dog. My toddler enjoyed this book and asked for an encore reading. As the story goes on, when the Lion asks for his wish, we almost forget, why he came to the town.
Most of the time the Lion is sleeping in the story. We went to the zoo recently and found the Lion sleeping. This resonated with the actions of the Lion in the story.

The Innovators Hypothesis

Indian farmers receive prices by SMS
Electric starter for cars
Walmart partners - P&G, Colgate Palmolive
Exploding Coupons

To begin with, the innovations talked about in the book are not brand new like introducing an automobile, diaper or pharmaceutical drugs into the market but more about their easy adoption ad solutions to problems along, like an electric starter instead of a dangerous crank for a car, a diaper that glows in the dark, so kids dont have to be disturbed from their sleep, ways of making sure that the patients actually take the tablets. These alterations increase the value of a product, but the companies cannot increase the price way too much than they began with unless it is an earth shattering invention. Once we have that cleared, its easier to appreciate the book for its emphasis on quick experimentation instead of a blanket change of products all around the globe. In companies with fast turn around time requiremnt, the engineers are not left with the luxury of testing something, always trying to beat the competitor by bringing the actual modified product into the market.
The author mostly deals with fast paced companies like Amazon and Google that are required to come up with results faster than in quantity.
In the Fruit-Roll ups production line breakdown, when a statistician brought chemists, production engineers and line operators into a room to find solution o the problem. It brought home the idea of importance of TWI (Training within industry).
The author wants to show instrumentation engineering as the de facto route to success, but every experiment begins with an idea. Its the scope of the idea implementation that can save companies losses. Evident from the battered examples of Blockbuster, Netflix, it doesnt hurt to run some quick sanity check on your next moves.

The Culture of Noisy Necklace

The design of a necklace. Like well done art, you can admire how a pendant and a chain come together to make an impression on your mind. A seahorse and everyday objects can be deified.
Sometimes necklaces are keepsakes of pictures, like a locket. Kids play with kitschy party bead necklaces. Giving them the leeway of play, along with breakage that might occur instead of being careful with it. There is a delicacy to the necklace, unless it is made of rope. Many necklaces used in India for talisman purposes or everyday wear, are made of thread. If your necklace were to react to the weather, or react to your feelings and either reciprocate them or balance them. A Necklace that sings. A new dimension added to a beautiful thing. If birds were mute, they would be seen differently. They wouldnt be messed with as much.
If the song of a necklace was faint, or if like minded necklaces resonated and only then music happened.

A Music box with a ballerina or a dancing couple, adds movement to the temp of the aural music. What if your necklace danced. And just to make i easy on you, only in a levitated condition, so it doesnt graze against your skin.

And if your music wasnt all classic. How would you like a Rock n Roll or Hard Metal Necklace?

Iris of the Eye

In the sun, I could see the blue sparkles of the sea blue earrings on my face. The "Magic Bean" Swarovski Elements Austrian Crystal drop Earrings with its cut looks like the iris of the eye. The earring have some weight to it, which will remind you that you have made an effort to wear something different than usual. It is a French Wire earring, so easy to put it on and take it off. The two spaced straps atop the crystal, add to its mystique like an orange being peeled.

A Necklace with character

In the Sun, the Mondaynoon Eternal Love Teardrop Swarovski Elements Crystal Pendant in Olive shines its green sparkles on your hand, if it gets closer to the necklace. The necklace is closer to a choker length than a princess one. There's some variable length to the chain. The chain has tiny twisted links with flat stations at about every digit length. My favourite part of this pendant is the bail. It has two twirls, thicker than the necklace with white stones embedded into it. The necklace loops through the bigger twirl, while the smaller twirl overhang is wrapped onto the pendant.Part of the twirl is left plain which heightens the texture of the embedded part. Overall, the solidness of the tear drop pendant is set well against the fluidity of the twirl and the links of the chain.

Aquamarine

According to the Smithsonian, Aquamarine has the same origins as Emerald, its the minerals that are in it, that gives them their different colours.

Yesterday, the Moon was golden and big. I have always approached this from west and on foot. Last night we drove towards it from the east. With each pole we passed, it seemed like there was one main pole, where we would stop seeing it, but it kept bouncing pole after pole.

We are going to the Zoo

We went to the Phoenix Zoo today. I have been there other times, volunteering at some of the exhibits - Monkey Village, Koala Exhibit, cleaning up Oryx Display.

Even though most of the animals are familiar ones, what struck me about the animals was their behaviour. Today we saw a rhino take a leak, it was powerful but when science kicks in, the say is that larger animals dont take any longer to leak. The rhino went back to chowing the grass. And then it moved on to the other part of its station. It did seem interesting to see what a Rhino does the whole day. It did seem like we caught all the other animals at their sleeping time.

We saw a lion sleep on the side with one of its legs up in the air. looks like armadillos do sleep with their legs up in the air. the tiger exhibit was quiet with the Sumatran tiger sleeping somewhere at the bottom of the raised exhibit. Once you get a closer look, you can still see, though lying seemingly dead, its huge. A Mandrill too took to the bed, but the baboons were busy grooming.

A Mom Orangutan surprised everybody standing spatchcocked against the glass and then took a blanket and covered herself in it. Maybe she was feeding the baby or putting her to bed.

I had seen adult komodo before, this time it was a young Komodo on exhibit. The adult was not out in the open as its too cold.

pamper the Baby

Bassinet is such a short time stage, a couple of months. So it seems like a pack n playard with bassinet will just be fine for the job. But Summer Infant Soothe and Sleep Bassinet is too adorable to begin with. When I held the motor it seemed like it had a jiggly thing in it. later I realised this is how the soother gets its mojo of gently rocking and vibrating the bassinet. And along with it are soothing classical music, gurgling water, bird sounds and womb sounds (reminds me of ultra sound). The canopy doesnt hold well in place.

Housewarming Gift

My wife's boss brought us candles for housewarming and said that in it is Korean tradition to present something that burns.
My husband then added that in Indian tradition, a father should not gift his daughter anything related to fire, for marriage.
In Korean, if you are married, it means you met your spouse 10000 ties, in previous life?

Bubble finger

Suddenly a quarter of the room
had soap bubbles
With so many in the air
I became a child
like all the other twos
I held my finger tips so

Once that achieved
I tried transferring it

the bubbles didnt survive

Then came stacking the bubbles
one on another
I counted till ten.
