How do you encourage and motivate a person that puts themselves down, negatively responds to compliments or denies their own potential?

Jillian Michaels has a good answer for people who start going away from their goals - If you have a flat tire, you dont go puncture another good tire.

If you start about rebuilding, then you know its better to cut down your losses which starts with helping yourself.

Why do I feel like I have no energy or motivation?

Have your vitamins. If thats not it, Weed out activities that sap energy. Maintain a journal that tracks your energy. Maintain an energy journal to see which activities make you feel in flow.

When you start getting an idea of what kind of people and activities gel with your energy, start planning your life vision.

"The primary function of the telescope’s optics is to reduce the illusion that the stars are few, faint, twinkling and moving. The same is true of every feature of the telescope, and of all other scientific instruments: each layer of indirectness, through its associated theory, corrects errors, illusions, misleading perspectives and gaps." - David Deutsch

A good coach or mentor is like a telescope who can see from far, your shiny bright future that you cant see yet.

Why April?

Schoolmaster alternate title gives something away.

By becoming a part of a routine, we become timeless and the knowledge about the surroundings seeps into us.

"she knew every stone, every tree on the road from the town to her school" sounds cliche but also the clicheness that can only come from immersion, what you know something as the back of the hand

Is the unanswering brother to show that she wouldnt be the one to end relations?

Why the horseman?

To bring in the news from the tavern and the happenings. What if we just got to that? This will show the role of the schoolmistress.

Like the no solution as one of the answers to a customer facing a problem, not reading the story is an option for the reader, they can go back to what they were doing, before and after doing. The story needs to keep the reader in the story. Till the end.

George Saunders calls a story a set of expectations and their resolutions.

After page one:

Summary

A lady very situated in the school life, as if she began as a school teacher even losing track of her childhood and family. No references to her life as a school child or comparisons with how school is different now.

What are you curious about?

Why does she not enjoy the ride?

Where do you think the story is headed?

Maybe she will not get her pay?

The company has to work with the expectation set or exploit them. When the infinite possibilities keep narrowing, the company has been derisked like The Power law.

Status as a service

Many references to George Saunders lessons on writing, this is a good confluence of tech and writing that I love being at. If you look at the beginning of my blog, it was very creative writing oriented. Then it moved towards nonfiction reading mainly on business which led me to MBA. After that I am back to writing with reading short story a day for the year.

Office Without Overhead

Malls being repurposed for offices, class, labs. Andco and Industriousoffice democratize office space for meeting purpose and pay per usage or need. This is unbundling of the office space as storage, place to meet, place to bond. While earlier offsite was one way to bond, now the tables are reversed.

Now anyone can open an office without much overhead.

Many functions are being chopped and repurposed into different verticals.

For example, in Toastmasters, I had to go fundraising for an event talking to Costco and other bagel and coffee places asking for breakfast donation. I have to do that for printing for model kits for children to be engaged with science. Earlier I would have probably done this as part of Girl Scouts, but now it becomes a stand alone thing and based on the family's conviction of doing such events consistently. The unbundling of clubs caused by covid.

Zepto is a funny riff on what you can already get from the corner store, but I guess with the choice you want on an "infinite shelf" like Amazon calls it. Professor Galloway's the last last mile is a webvan-coming-back-full-circle for customers for real. An MVP of this is corner store, assuming your basic needs were met there.

All this usage of whats already built and being underused, sounds like anything new to be built now has a big barrier. It might be that new construction will only happen for repair or when existing things cant be repurposed to meet the need.  Modula vertical modules, squeeze the space out of warehouses.

Dronamics says, "We’re looking for underserved airports, using time slots where there is no passenger traffic. Southwest Maker Faire 2022

Young Makers Build Telescopes and Space Stations.

"You made a 3D model out of a paper" exclaimed my kids. The Hubble telescope model grew out of my fascination of another astronomer's model which I saw in Christian Ready's video. NASA website has the models for these giant instruments. As I was making these models, following instructions, I realised I could interact better with the constituent parts and understand how all the components got there to make these very useful telescopes.
We have models of James Webb Space Telescope and Hubble Telescope. We also plan to have an International Space Station module by the Southwest Maker Faire time.
Q&A is encouraged from all the interested makers. The aim of this exhibit is to make STEM accessible to all and introduce makers to the joy of modeling.

For a broad thinking

Heroic parents

This morning I was making semiya upma like many others days, but was getting behind the fast pacing childrens hunger.

In an effort to speeden up, I asked for help in various steps of it. Immediately the question came as to why I dont do mis-en-place when my kid needs to that when she is cooking. I have answered previous calls of help, similar to mine with mis-en-place's need and place in avoiding such a situation.

My jun-bi was being questioned but then I understood the circumstances. I would usually do the same cooking way back, without anyone's help. When my daughter does the cooking, usually she starts early, so there is no hurry. Today the stomachs were already hungry and I wanted to add more veggies, which was going to delay the start. Coming to mis-en-place, my sister follows that style and not me. All parenting is about guiding towards a known better way, not necessarily the parents.

Cooking without mis-en-place is doing heroic running around the kitchen, to save the curry. In dire situations, you get the others to run around for you. Maybe I am not showing the best way of cooking, but I am showing how to mange the worst of it. Building things in hurry with team work.

Imagine that you are interested in beginning a fitness program, but are afraid you might not follow through with the program. what can you do to ensure that you will continue to be motivated for the duration of your fitness program?

 Curiosity

Go with a program, that you are not entirely sure of how the end result might be, but you like the promise of it. You can go into it with consistency as your input.

Challenge

May be you are upto the intensity of the program or not at the beginning. Halfway, you might find strength gains. May be that plank walk is not churning your stomach like it used to. You have crossed the hill.

Being open

May be this is not the best program but there is no way to know without taking the first step. May be this program wont work like you wanted to. Eh? Switch to another with Curiosity or Challenge.
