Sustainable Development Columbia University

"Sustainable development is founded on the premise that human well-being should advance without irreparable harm to ecosystems and the vital services they provide, without depleting essential resources, and without posing risks to future generations. The term "sustainable" refers to managing the world's economy in a manner consistent with the continued healthy functioning of Earth's ecosystems, oceans, atmosphere and climate. In this context, "development" refers to continued social, political, and economic progress aimed at improving the well-being of the global community, especially for the poorest people."

Orality and Literacy

Orality and Literacy by Walter J Ong

Bonds yields rising

Fed's Logan says higher yields may mean less need to raise rates

Financial conditions and the monetary policy outlook - Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan remarks before the 65th National Association for Business Economics annual meeting

"Higher term premiums result in higher term interest rates for the same setting of the fed funds rate, all else equal. Thus, if term premiums rise, they could do some of the work of cooling the economy for us, leaving less need for additional monetary policy tightening to achieve the FOMC’s objectives."

Bookends

 Humans like bookends.

They need to know where they came from. They need to know where they will end up.

In between the cosmic gases and stars, is a relay race filled with theism and others where the power shifts like states of matter, changing hands.

Voiceover

The Sound of the Future: The Coming Age of Voice Technology

At the library, I knew I was missing a program, it started when I started from home. When I am at the libraty and have renewed my card, I wonder if I could be allowed into the program, even though I have not registered for it. How can you not want to know, all about something?

What I did was break into a circle of people, even though I didnt want to. I was happy listening to them outside of the circle, but they made me join.

Next 40 min was a wonderful conversation of an experienced voiceover artist The Lady Known As Lou from LA. It wont be a surprise that it was fun to hear her speak and sometimes share stories of how she used a voice she heard in a store and got an assignment from that. Just like writers, voice over artists are voyuers in some sense.

Now having attended this class, how has my life changed? I am now more aware of the effect of sound,  When EF Hutton speaks, I had to look it up and hear.

I got thinking about this and recalled, probably rhe interest in voice is from the recent book I started reading "The Sound of the Future: The Coming Age of Voice Technology". With more AI around, we can see the need for the representation of humanity through our voice. Recall the ereaders from two decades ago. There is something about emotions that can unjar you. Something about the undulating voices instead of the stationary ones.

Looking at the relics of the trains in a road park, I wonder in this constant overthrowing th existing tech and harbringing the new tech, keeping relics of the past, how will our coming generations look at the chatgpts, 2 decades from now.

When I think of this age compared to the age of the stars that are forming and are going to be here for billions of years, it does seem like we make a big deal of it all.

Its another day's story if how I made it to a talk on Astrophysics of why balloon experiments and why from Antarctica. Soem fun facts there that sun is a third generation star.  Learned a lot about ballooning

I initially thought it was a program for youth. I wondered why not ask if I could join. Turns out its for everyone. I didnt realise how big these balloons get once they are at the edge of the atmosphere.

The Art of Rhetoric

The Art of Rhetoric by Aristotle

I am pairing this book with  Winning Arguments by Stanley Fish
When EF Hutton speaks

Substantive argument vs principal argument
"A speaker shouldn’t write out their entire speech. Reading out a whole speech won’t be very persuasive."
Something similar to this was echoed in the Rhetoric book.
