Carmen
You will quickly find yourself getting into Carmen's skina nd carinf for her. Where is she going to stay next and feel relief when you think she could stay in the church.
Some of the cinematic stuff is fun. On the side, Paulo understanding her past through the playing of the old film and sympathising with Carmen.
It takes a while to understand the narrow location, as to why she waits for the policeman to go inside, why she couldnt skirt around to go across..

Art and time

When we look at art, we do not realise the effect that piece of art had during its times. We are away from that time, so we do not know the attitudes towards those subjects. Take the stag beetle for example. Artists can change the world by what their focus lands on. Changing the ordinary to beautiful.

Story swerves
Today I saw a biker swerve lanes. I recalled Alai Payuthey movie. In the starting scene, an accident occurs. Why is that important? We are going to learn about the couple who fights but there was extreme love before that. If this was an interesting story, would we not be interested in it chronologically? It works as a hook, a play of fate that he misses the accident, which is a detour. Eventually the truth has to be faced. How are reconciliations brought about in story?
In Gulcemal, hero thought dead comes back after few ears. Time heals the wounds of a bitter mom and everyone accepts everyone.
Its the cliff hanging, if Shakthi will survive or not. Will the hero get a chance to reconciliate? What of she went into a coma for a while. Would he wait converted?
The heightened state of a chance of reconciliation at stake, makes for a good frame for the story. Its the rite that starts the process. If not now, then when.
