Why?

If you use google email, you might have seen the friendly AI suggest what you should reply. One of the recent first stumped me at how helpful it can be and cover our blindsides if we ever forget to ask "why" for a change that is going to be brought upon us.

Carmen

Carmen

You will quickly find yourself getting into Carmen's skina nd carinf for her. Where is she going to stay next and feel relief when you think she could stay in the church.

Some of the cinematic stuff is fun. On the side, Paulo understanding her past through the playing of the old film and sympathising with Carmen.

It takes a while to understand the narrow location, as to why she waits for the policeman to go inside, why she couldnt skirt around to go across..

Memories of the Sword

Memories of the Sword

Everyone has their favorite martial arts movie involving flying (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon), master (Kung Fu Panda), training (all of them, Bruce Lee, Ip Man).

This movie has the zen observations of tea brewing. The scene about how the water boils. You need a narrator in life who can wax and wane about the ordinary things in life.

The sensibilities of the retribution might be understood from the Goryeo times.

Art and time

 Stag beetle by Albert Drurer

"Singling out a beetle as the focal point of a work of art was unprecedented in 1505, when most of Dürer's contemporaries believed that insects were the lowest of creatures."

When we look at art, we do not realise the effect that piece of art had during its times. We are away from that time, so we do not know the attitudes towards those subjects. Take the stag beetle for example. Artists can change the world by what their focus lands on. Changing the ordinary to beautiful.

 Animal Symbolism

"one of the goals of a contemporary artist is to keep art alive"

A masterpiece is only a masterpiece in so far as it informs the present

My afternoon walks are filled with cricket sounds reminding me of my summer childhood.

"If old truths are to retain their hold on men's minds, they must be restated in the language and concepts of successive generations. What at one time are their most effective expressions gradually become so worn with use that they cease to carry a definite meaning" -- The Constitution of Liberty"

This is in the same vein as said for the art to be rephrased for current times, to maintain its relevance.

Story swerves

Today I saw a biker swerve lanes. I recalled Alai Payuthey movie. In the starting scene, an accident occurs. Why is that important? We are going to learn about the couple who fights but there was extreme love before that. If this was an interesting story, would we not be interested in it chronologically? It works as a hook, a play of fate that he misses the accident, which is a detour. Eventually the truth has to be faced. How are reconciliations brought about in story?

In Gulcemal, hero thought dead comes back after few ears. Time heals the wounds of a bitter mom and everyone accepts everyone.

Its the cliff hanging, if Shakthi will survive or not. Will the hero get a chance to reconciliate? What of she went into a coma for a while. Would he wait converted?

The heightened state of a chance of reconciliation at stake, makes for a good frame for the story. Its the rite that starts the process. If not now, then when.

a good lesson here on how to make your storytelling interesting..

We go chronological but here, the stories are intersected... and you have a chance to show little or more of the intersection of stories. What happens by chance and what is an eventuality..
