Never Give Up: Dr. Kati Karikó and the Race for the Future of Vaccines
Never Give Up: Dr. Kati Karikó and the Race for the Future of Vaccines
Enjoyed this book. I read it with kids. Now they have new vocabulary of DNA, mRNA. They understood that Dr Kati was following her dreams when she chose the science camp over a water park vacation. We saw that for work of her life that could save millions, she has moved to far off places. It is amazing that even through marathon, she would work through research. It shows her "Never Give Up" attitude through all the troubles of lack of support for her work as well as sustained curiosity. Great way of letting the people know of the effort that goes into life saving technologies.

Ridge gourd meditation
I have started taking interest in watching ridge gourds grow. In an area, there is lot of flowering which is how they probably start. There is a young one. Currently it looks so tender, hanging in the middle of a leaf in the background.
Gardener's fruits of labor are shared by others.
My dad and I watched two flowers on the arch. Later in the day, while enjoying wind, I noticed one of the flowers fall down.
Because of winter, with doors open, the wind chimes are getting active. My dad noticed that there are lot of tiny birds in the garden.
I am going to visit the ridge gourd vine again.

Pomegranate half nest
I saw a little bird today probably verdin with a bit of red fairy duster in its mouth. It saw me and was confused about its choice of building material for its nest. It took me a while to understand this.
Imagine pomegranate as a nest.

Alpenglow
This evening while driving east, I saw the evening light fall on the mountains. The mountains looked pink also referred to as Alpenglow.
A little later in the night,we could see the mountains in front of us fuse into one big continuous wall.
At the park, we saw a ring necked duck, mallards and the beautiful purple of the male duck with quite a palette of faded yellow/greenish beak, plastic log brown legs.
Start small
In the park, I saw some numbers on the grass. There was a little kid with baseball bat and all the paraphernalia. Those were the baseball base numbers, He had a game next day and he was practising. Its interesting that the field grows with you.

How to cut vegetables?
As a vegetable artist, do you go for big strokes first or small ones?
I have been taken back to childhood where one of my chores was cutting vegetables. When I started cutting cluster beans yesterday, there was some nicety to chopping of the ends of them all first and then lining up in bundles (This always reminds me of Unity is Strength). Yes you wnat to optimise and try to get as many in one cut but not at the cost of your fingers.
Today its broccoli. I wasnt sure if I would get through all the three heads of it. Its one of our favorite vegetable because of the peanuts that go into it. I was thinking that I will do as much as I can and wrap up the rest for later. Having done one, it seemed unsurmountable. I then realised something, instead of cutting it haphazardly, if I maintained some rhyme, then it was better, both in packing up if I had to and also about the feel good factor of cleaning up as we go. With that bite sized approach, I realised it was even motivating to cut it all fast.
Then theres the calorie burning effect of standing and cutting vegetables. It takes calories to be prepared well for tomorrow. With veggies cut, dinner prep with healthy veggies is so much happening in reality than just thoughts.

Dreams of a dragonfly
I love stretches towards the end of the swim.
At the swimming pool, we found evanescent wings of a dragonfly.
I was showing the braille dots on the board at the restroom entrance. After feeling the dots, kid was reminded of Helen Keller. This whle morning I have been inundated with stories of Jane Goodall, Amelia Earhart. I didnt know that Amelia Earhart made her own roller coaster as a kid. Her dream of flying started young. Or are they dreams we are born with?
Dragonflies go through metamorphosis. While coming out of the larva, it slowly pushes itself out, waiting for the newly emerging body to dry before it canemerge further. They are short-lived which makes the sight of the fallen wings around the water sources common.
If you see a dragonfly, theres water clsoe by.
