The Hunchback of Notre Dame

The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Easton Press Collector's Edition, The 100 Greatest Books Ever Written)

If you havent been to Paris, and you still know about Notre Dame cathedral,

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is easily your first inroduction to it.

In the recent outpourings, it has become so clear how architecture can bind people. I wonder what will the common ground be for future generations.

The Warming Drawer

Yesterday, I thought of walking to the grocery store and buying a cake. Instead in the last minute, I thought why not make the fudge? While chosing the pan for it, my not so deft hands moved two pizza sheets under the 'warming drawer' that is under the oven.

Now thats not even the fun fact. even more fun fact is -
I thought that for eternity the pizza platters will langush in the oven basement for years to come. Just like two pretty bookmarks that have been stuck in the office cube paraphernalia for more than a decade. Wonder when their day will come.

At first, I tried to engineer my hand into the cave to get it out. I remember it working another time. At one point, a thought ran through my head, that my hand might get stuck there. On a lark I tried to pull it out. And there it was, I got a peek of the florr there too after retrieving the pizza sheets.

If you didnt know, the Warming Drawer, thinks and moves out of the box.

For a person whose writing is more visual than any other sense, the smell of the brownie moved me across rooms.

Transforming NOKIA: The Power of Paranoid Optimism to Lead Through Colossal Change

Transforming NOKIA: The Power of Paranoid Optimism to Lead Through Colossal Change

The value of alternative thinking

From I, T to X

Dissecting the board meetigns prior to the fall, Siilasmaa wonders  'How do you prevent the agenda from being a mile wide and an inch deep?' This brought me to imagining the T as broad T (too much breadth reduces depth) or tall T ( and too much depth narrows your area). Doing an MBA or changing an industry can move you from (I=tall T) to normal T.

G-Mac: Essence of a Wave

I have not heard of Garrett McNamara before and thought G-Mac is some scientific term like the g used for gravity.
This video shows Garrett at a personal level of who he is, how he got started, what keeps him going. I love his selfless attitude of helping his friends to fulfill their dreams of big waves.
I found it fascinating that while in Satori, some surfers mentioned anxiety and fear, Mcnamara doesn’t it feel it when he is on the big waves but he does when he is taking along someone. You even hear from a friend he nudged to go for the big waves.
Garett McNamara says with ideal conditions, no wave is too big for man. In an unusual disastrous time, Alaska has seen a 1700ft wave.

Old spice Ad like

I have never heard of the word Satori, so was curious about it.

If you have wondered why people surf or how they feel after their bout in the ocean..
The first ten minutes are all water, white, foam, ocean and great music.
Each time the word ‘Dungeons’ is announced, you can feel a great past and mystery that needs to be known.
I found it surprising that some surfers have an anxiety pitching their fitness against the wave
I liked one surfer’s approach of learning jujitsu so he will get prepared to face the heavy weight of his opponent on him as that of the tons of water in a wave.
Other surfers see it as a less distracted space than land where there’s just the board and you and you see the beauty of the breath and live in the moment. That must be the feeling of ‘satori’ where you are awake to the energy of the wave and bring a piece of that back to the land.
You see the possibilities of tow-in surfing that has changed the definition of big wave from 20 ft to 100 ft.
Garett McNamara says with ideal conditions, no wave is too big for man. In an unusual disastrous time, Alaska has seen a 1700ft wave.

Momentous - The Ario Dream

The Ario Dream

When one of the cavers came back to meet his friends, my child exclaimed – oh its a team. Upon further study, I understood why caving is done in teams. It is a dangerous activity, hence just like mountaineering where few reach the summit while the rest of the team waits at the base camp, caving too is a staged attempt.
When they showed how it is hard to do caving during the day because of the too bright light, it made sense to do caving with the headlight in the dark.
I liked the team’s focus on the objective of connecting the various caves instead of exploring the caves deeply. Something is to be said for the first human steps laid on a land.
They move so lithely, like fish in coral reef.
Very small details like the clipped edge of a small label so the cavers can know which direction to trace back shows you how prepared they have to be.
Have not heard of a rebreather before.
It is amazing to flash your light on the twine and then at some point find the wound twine and be the person to roll it further to make way for the next diver.

57 years in the making!!

Understanding Others

Values and the transparency with which they are presented affect leadership-followership relation. 'Values Hierarchy' implies that two people with same values might still not agree as they place different importance to those same values.
