Star gazing party

The Black Series Mini Binoculars for $2 at Bed, Bath and Beyond.
When we went into the backyard, I saw the Orion and had to point it out to a kid. I then asked her if she knew constellations. she knew of Ursa Major. when they were about to leave, standing in the front yard, I got to point her to the very same Ursa Major. I recalled my previous stargazing experience in four peak Mountains. Its hard to take kids in the night to a far place and why do we have to go that far if we can see them in our backyard.
I want to plan a Star gazing party. I began looking for telescopes and then read that binoculars are a good start.

A Perfect Day for Digging

This book 'A Perfect Day for Digging' reminds me of Tom Sawyer and his painting the fence activity.
This book's energy will get the uninterested ones too digging any day. The division of the action in the pages shows the pace of the characters. I dont know which was the first book with many scenes on the same page, but I like it for the snapshot effect.
The filled in effect, creative use of color in the illustrations - blue on the fence, on the tree (along with the green), on Nell's dress.. would make a very good coloring activity book if the book were to ever come out in that form.

I have never read a Belgian fairy tale before. The elements of the story are unexpected. The Golden Bird with powers enough to fight a witch's evil charms. I personally love the illustrations and thought it might be a little dark for children but out of curiosity when I opened Belgian fairy tales by William Elliot Griffis, that book too had some dark background.
